Rescue animal of the Amazon (CREA) was founded through the joint efforts of the "world aquarium Dallas (Texas, USA), the regional government of Loreto, the research Institute of the Peruvian Amazon and Acobia-DWAzoo. Its purpose is to develop programs to rescue, rehabilitate and release back to the wild aquatic mammals such as the manatee, Amazonian white river Dolphin, pink Dolphin under threat of extinction. In addition, developed and already has a program of environmental education, which contribute to the conservation of these species of wild animals in the ecological balance of the ecosystem.

The Fund reports that in the Amazon manatees are endangered because of poaching and destruction of their habitats. The problem is aggravated by the illicit trade in cubs manatees, which are sold as Pets, and because of the difficulty in caring for them, the mortality among them is very high. Since then, has been successfully rescued and released more than 25 manatees.

In addition, in the work of salvation CREA executes the program of environmental education with the participation of children from the primary schools in the city of Iquitos and surrounding communities. Director of CREA Javier Velasquez explained the importance of the rescue center and is negotiating to attract children of the Loreto region and 48 communities to environmental education.

In Service of rescue the Animals of the Amazon attracts around 30,000 visitors a year. There are guided tours where visitors can take part in the work to care for manatees, river dolphins, armadillos, otters, turtles and other animals of the Amazon, to learn more about these species and their habitats. This place became the main point of eco-tourism in Loreto and has received recognition from the Ministry of foreign trade and tourism.
