In the historical center of Kaliningrad, opposite the defensive barracks of the crown Prince, is the largest Bastion Rollmasage upper front with a horseshoe redyuite. A fortification was built in 1851 by the project of military engineer Ernst Ludwig von Aster and named in honor of the reformer of the Prussian army, participant of the Napoleonic wars – General Karl Wilhelm von Grolman.
Bastion "grollman is a great defensive structure, covering an area from the street Frunze street Alexander Nevsky, and consists of two-storey brick redyuite the shape of a horseshoe, powerful pentagonal fortification with yard space, angle, directed towards the defensive wall, the caponier, the two polycapillary, earthworks, two casemates gorgeou parts, bridge strengthening and exit gates. Bastion "grollman" was connected with the Kronprinz barracks underground passage. In the early twentieth century, the redyuite Bastion found the third floor.
During the storming of Koenigsberg Bastion remained one of the last pockets of resistance and suffered extensive destruction. In the postwar period has been adapted for growers, in the early nineties most were canned. In March 2007, the Bastion has received the status of cultural heritage (regional significance). Nowadays, the Bastion of Grolman" preserved almost intact, the front part of the buildings occupied by commercial organizations, external parties are available for viewing. In the immediate vicinity of the Bastion "grollman" are the barracks of the crown Prince and the Royal gate, within walking distance of the Bastion "Overtip", Restgarantie gate, tower of Donna, Zakamska gate and redyuite Bastion "Kupferstich".
