The most remarkable creation of the famous German architect Friedrich Heitmann - the Church of the Holy Family, located in the centre of Kaliningrad, a five minute walk from South station. Religious building in neo-Gothic style with a tall tower and arched entrance was built in 1907 as the temple in which the spirit of Christ and His earthly parents.
The design of the Church, all forms soaring, was unusual works Heitmann and was the result of a long study of the temples of East Prussia, the prototype of which was the Church of the Holy Family. Because of the nearby hospital of St. Catherine, the Church was sometimes called Katharinen Church. In 1945 the Church, like almost all the buildings of Koenigsberg, was damaged and has long stood abandoned. In the late 1970s, on the initiative of the head of Kaliningrad and under the guidance of architect Paul Gorbach began the painstaking reconstruction of the building. In August 1980, in a stately building opened Kaliningrad regional Philharmonic hall. In 1982, the great hall was decorated organ with five manuals and 3,600 pipes.
