Kherson local lore Museum, located on Lenin street, is a Museum complex historical, ethnographic, natural history, literary styles. The Museum was founded in 1890 by the famous Ukrainian archaeologist, ethnographer and public figure V. I. Goshkevichem.

In the collections of the Museum there are about 150 thousand Museum pieces, among them one of the best in Ukraine archaeological collection, a unique collection of coins of ancient cities of the Northern black sea area, a huge complex samples of firearms and bladed weapons 15 - 20 century; and a collection of hunting rifles, 18th - 19th century, a rich collection of antique furniture, porcelain.

The diversity of antiquity presented in the Department of history (Scythian gold jewelry, ancient Greek marble sculpture, Cossack weapon, the first drawings of the Kherson fortress, works of art of past centuries).

A special place in the Museum is the one dedicated to the Foundation of the city of Kherson, and related historical personalities: G. Potemkin, Suvorov and Ushakov.

In the literary Department of the Kherson regional Museum presents a valuable collection of engravings and bookplates, original paintings, manuscripts, unique books, historic and memorabilia of famous writers: L. Tolstoy, A. Pushkin, D. Burliuk, A. Kruchenykh, M. Kulish and B. Lavrenev.

In the natural history Department exhibited a unique collection of flora and fauna of the Kherson region, collected in the late 19th century a famous scientist-biologist. Pacholski. The real gem of this Department is the exhibition dedicated to the fascinating world of the Lower Dnieper estuary, the Black and Azov seas.

Its visitors the Museum offers a survey and thematic excursions. Kherson Museum of local lore is one of the most famous and priceless treasures of the South of Ukraine.
