Museum center of Andrei Tarkovsky opened in Yuryevets 28 November 1996. The initiative of the Museum belongs to historians, the city administration, the Committee on art and culture of the Ivanovo region and society by A. Tarkovsky and the Association of museums of EGOISM.

Andrei Arsenievich Tarkovsky is an acknowledged master of cinema, a talented Russian Director. His films are an integral part of the culture of modernity. The origins of his brilliant creativity – from a small town on the Volga – Yuryevets, it is unfortunately considered their homeland.

The house where the Museum center, built in the early 20th century. In the Soviet period and up to the opening of the Museum it was communal housing. Since 1933 has two rooms in this house were assigned to the stepfather of the mother of Andrei Tarkovsky, Petrov N. M.

Tarkovsky was born in the village zavrazhe Yuryevets district April 4, 1932. During the evacuation – in the period from 1941 to 1943, the years their family lived in Yuryevets with my grandmother. It was in this town Andrew went to school and received his primary education. In 1943 the family returned to Moscow. In 1951 the girl graduated from high school, and in 1954 he entered the directing Department of VGIK.

In 2007, the 75th anniversary of the Director was made re-exposition of the Museum. In the courtyard of the Museum are two of the architectural composition: the wall of the destroyed temple, personifying the image of the temples in the films of Andrei Tarkovsky, and also symbolizes the memory of all temples, lost in the 20th century; "the well", which symbolizes the sacred relation in the films of the great Director.

The Museum exposition is four rooms: "family History", "World artist", "Communal apartment. 1941-1943, "Corner pretender" and "Communal kitchen". The greatest interest for visitors to the Museum exhibition is "Communal apartment", which is a reconstruction on the memoirs of sister of the Director of the M. A. Tarkovsky communal apartment, where for some time he lived future genius. Hall "artist's World" reveals the work of the master film and talks about his eight films, including the short thesis, created in 1961 under the title "the steamroller and the violin".

His first feature film, Tarkovsky created in 1962. It was Ivan's childhood on a story by Vladimir Bogomolov. For this film the Director has received more than 10 awards at international film festivals, including the prize "Golden lion of St. Mark". The next big job "Andrei Rublev". This tape is about the great painter of the 15th century Russia. For its creation, despite the difficult fate of the film, Andrei Tarkovsky received the most awards, in 1978 the painting was included in the hundred best films in world cinema history.

Tarkovsky in his work was also drawn to the genre of science fiction. He created films such as "Stalker" based on the novel by Strugatsky and "Solaris" by S. LEM. The appeal to science fiction for a filmmaker has provided a new opportunity for understanding the social and moral problems of mankind.

In 1973 Andrew came in Yuryevets to select an exterior scene "Mirrors". But, when the city of his childhood, decided to remove the picture.

His two last works of the master shot abroad. The home he rented in Italy, and "the Sacrifice" – in Sweden. After "Sacrifice" Tarkovsky died. He left a rich legacy in the form of his brilliant creativity that revealing the truth about basic moral values in life. Every year the name of Tarkovsky there is an increasing interest in people of different ages.

Annually Yurevets on the ground marked the days of Andrei Tarkovsky, and since 2007 every year it hosts a film festival. Andrei Tarkovsky international scale "Mirror".
