National Park Benito Juarez is located in the Central part of Oaxaca. This is one of the first protected natural areas, elevated to the status of a national Park of the country Park was named in honor of former President Benito juárez, an indigenous resident of Oaxaca, who was the head of Mexico in the year of construction of the Park in 1937.
The Park is located in mountainous terrain at altitude 1650-3050 meters above sea level. The biggest mountain here – Cerro de San Felipe, its maximum height reaches 3111 meters. The Park area in 2737 hectare is under special protection. Its territory hosts major waterway is the river San Felipe.
Flora presented here 568 views. Forest, mainly pine and oak. At the foothills grow tropical deciduous forest.
In Park is home to 18 species of amphibians, 39 reptiles and 231 species of birds, some of them are considered endemic, and 62 species of mammals, such as ground squirrel, flying squirrel, Puma, ocelot and white-tailed deer. The most protected bird here is the blue Jay. This is a small songbird of the family Corvidae. It is found only in North America.
Scientists claim that today the national Park Benito Juarez is in danger. The woodlands of the Park are threatened by fire and cutting expensive wood. Suffer and fauna, because the Park borders are not protected and there are often infested with poachers.
