The chocolate Hills are an unusual geological formation in Bohol near the towns of Carmen, Batuan and Sagbayan, one of the main tourist attractions of the island, but throughout the country. According to recent research, only within an area of 50 sq km scattered over 1,700 hills. They are covered with grass, which in the dry season burn and become brown, - hence the name of the area.

Chocolate Hills long ago became a “hallmark” of the province of Bohol – they are depicted on its flag and symbolize the amazing nature of the island. In addition, the Hills are the third National Geological Monument in the Philippines and waiting in line for inclusion in the world Heritage list of UNESCO.

This major natural attraction is an area with a huge number of conical hills with a height of 30 to 50 meters. The highest hill has a height of 120 meters. The land between the hills have long been cultivated by man – here grow rice and other crops.

In the town of Carmen has an observation deck, which offers views of Chocolate Hills and on which is mounted a plate. The inscription on the plaque reads: “the Unique shape of the hills were formed thousands of years ago by the uplift of coral deposits from the seabed and of the action of erosion.” However, there are other explanations for this unusual phenomenon, including several legends. One of them tells of two feuding giants who hurled each other huge boulders. The battle lasted several days and was very tired both giants. Then they forgot about their feud and became friends, but when they go home, they forgot to remove the boulders and sand – so there was the Chocolate Hills.

Another, more romantic legend tells of a giant named Arogo is a young and very powerful. Arogo fell in love with an ordinary mortal girl Alou, and when she died, he was so upset that a few days wouldn't stop crying. His tears fell to earth and turned into the Hills.

Today, two of more than 1770 rolling hills turned into tourist resorts. One Chocolate Hills Complex " located in Carmen town, 55 km from Tagbilaran city, the capital of the island. It was there, at a height of 64 meters, arranged a viewing deck, which offers panoramic views of the hills. Another resort - Sagbayan Peak is located in the town of Sagbayan.
