A temple of the tenth century stands out for its powerful forms and grandiose dimensions (length – 39 m, width 25 m, height with dome – 29 m, wall thickness of 1, 5 meters! ) and among the best monuments of the Abkhazian medieval architecture. Repeated restoration violated the ancient appearance of the building, but failed to destroy the grandeur and severity of outline. In the southwestern part of the porch are preserved paintings of the XV century. The drum of the dome between the high Windows there were images of the 12 apostles, of which are partially preserved 10. The full image of Christ and the apostles in the dome was renewed during the restoration of the temple in 1860. From 1875 to 1917, the Church was a monastery of new Athos monastery.

The building has excellent acoustic properties. This feature allowed us to open here in 1975 the organ concert hall, where, to this day, weekly concerts are held. Under the ancient vaults of the music of Bach, Beethoven, Liszt, Schubert. In the annual festivals attended by the best musicians in the world.
