Museum-estate of the artist N. And.Yaroshenko is one of the most extensive collections of works of artists-Itinerants in Russia. The Museum was opened in 1962, there is a huge collection of works by outstanding artists N. And.Yaroshenko and N. And.Kasatkina.
An old farmhouse, where the Museum is located, was attended by prominent figures of Russia, among them A. I. Kuindzhi, D. I. Mendeleev, I. E. Repin, F. I. Shalyapin. In the summer of 1802 he visited here and Nikolai Yaroshenko's wife. The decor in the house, and the rest in Kislovodsk, liked Yaroshenko, and he has not once been back here. And in 1885, the mansion was purchased by the owner of Lieutenant-General M. G. Chernyaev. Here is an outstanding painter of his time and met the last days of life. He was buried close to the cottages, at St Nicholas Cathedral.
In 1918 it was decided to rename the street where the cottage, in honor of Yaroshenko, and in the room to open the Museum. But this plan was not implemented. Soon the house was converted into communal housing, and in the 30-ies it was decided to demolish the Cathedral and the elimination of the cemetery. The Cathedral was destroyed, but the locals defended the preservation of the graves of Yaroshenko. And only in 1959, with the filing of the artist In. . Selskogo, the RSFSR Council of Ministers it was decided to organize the Museum. Materials for Kislovodsk Museum were transferred from the State Russian Museum, Poltava, Kiev museums. Most of the exhibits have included the works Yaroshenko from private collections of Russian collectors. The Grand opening of the Museum took place in 1962, in honor of the 100th birthday of Nesterov – patron, presented the Museum's extensive collection of works Yaroshenko. Thus, prior to 1986 in a wing of the Museum lived residents, who were later resettled.
Today, the Museum returned all the land near the house you will find a garden. In the wing opened exhibition of works by I. I. Levitan, L. K. Savrasov, V. G. Perov, L. I. Kuindzhi, L. P. Bryullov, I. I. Shishkin.
