The regional natural Park Photo: the Regional natural Park "Campo dei Fiori"

The regional natural Park "Campo dei Fiori" is one of the largest protected natural areas in the province of Varese in the vicinity of Lago Maggiore. On the North and West of the Park is limited to the valley of Val Kuvia in the East valley of Val Gunn, and on the South its boundary is highway Laveno Mombello Varese.

Its beauty Campo dei Fiori obliged a rich diversity of plants and animals living on its territory. Incidentally, the name of the Park itself translates as "Field of flowers". Local forests are represented by beech, chestnut, ash, maple and Linden, and the meadows are covered with wild orchids and gentian. The avifauna is dominated by birds of prey – vultures, honey Buzzards, Buzzards, hawks-Sparrow hawks, peregrine falcons and eagles, and of mammals are found deer, ROE deer and bats.

In addition, the Campo dei Fiori there are several natural monuments, like mineral source Fonte del Ceppo or unusual shaped rocks Marmitte dei Giganti, formed under the influence of the river Wellone. And yet there is over 130 underground caves!

Among other interesting places in the Park you can mark Rocca di orino lies – a small fortified building of the 15th century, which was used as a warehouse for storage of agricultural products and as a place of refuge for the inhabitants of nearby villages in case of danger. You can also visit the Torre the Velate is an ancient defensive building built in 11-12th centuries.

Throughout the Park there are several Hiking trails, equipped with information boards that tell about the history and natural features of these places. As part of a tour group, the Park can also be visited on a mountain bike. And for fans of a healthy lifestyle in Campo dei Fiori have a special area where they can train in agility. Finally, I climbed to the highest point of the Park – the mountain Punta Paradiso (1226 m) you can see the Observatory Schiaparelli and sub-Alpine geophysical center with the meteorological station and the seismological laboratory.
