In the district of Liberec called Rochlitz you can find a small, but very representative of the Church of St. John the Baptist. The Church looks very old, mainly because of a lack of maintenance. Crumbling plaster, streaks of rain on the facade contrast sharply with landscaped surrounding area. Near the temple is planted with young trees that cast a shadow on the numerous benches where anyone can relax and think about eternity, listening to the ringing of the bells at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.
Until 1657 the Church, dedicated to St. John, was made of wood. Numerous fires, lightning strikes, torrential downpours contributed to the fact that the people of Liberec realized that the future is in stone structures. So in the middle of the XVII century wooden Church was demolished and in its place built a new one out of solid stone, which were uneasy storms, rains and hot sun.
In 1678, the Church got a new tower that withstood three bells. They ringing proclaimed every hour.
In the beginning of XVIII century the Church began to update. Was completely replaced interior. In the Church installed a new altar, striking in its splendor, and elaborately decorated Department.
In 1746, a local rich man, the Appelt was looking for a place to soothe their future. He loved the solitude of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, so he sponsored the construction of the chapel with the condition that him here and buried him.
In the year 1800, there was a big fire, after which I had to completely renovate the interior and rebuild the tower again.
Currently, the Church is a working Church where services are held Catholic Mass.
