Grove Khetag located near the village of Sadag - revered and guarded the Shrine of the Ossetian people, which is a national monument of culture or nature.
About this grove there is a legend that tells of the escape of Kabardian Prince Khetag from his pursuers, the main purpose of which was to kill him for his acceptance of Christianity. It is known that the majority of Caucasians, including Kabardian people, Muslims. The only Christian Republic in the Caucasus was Ossetia, where and went Kabardian Prince. When the pursuers had almost overtaken the young man in the open field, he asked the Lord for help, he heard a voice: "what! Run to the forest! "The forest was not very close, and run back to him Khetag could not keep up, then the voice said:' Forest, to Khetag! "After these words, immediately before the Prince grew a grove of large trees, where the young man was able to hide from his pursuers, having not caught. In this grove the young Prince was hiding from enemies for about a year, and later, settling in the village of Nar, gave rise Ossetian kin Khetagurov.
This grove that related several traditions and taboos. One of the prohibitions is that from this Shrine're not supposed to take. From the very beginning here allowed to enter only the most worthy men for ascension prayers for health and rich harvest. Before the great Patriotic war, women were forbidden to enter the territory of the grove. But despite this, they went here to pray for their men who went to war. After that ban lifted.
On the territory of the grove you can see the house of prayer – coundon. Every year in July people come here from all corners of North Ossetia on the well-known holiday Khetag.
