The Church Of St. Trinity Photo: Church Of St. Trinity

Limassol is the second largest city of Cyprus is famous for its many cultural and architectural monuments that were built throughout the city's history. One of these historic sites is the Church of the Holy Trinity, located in the old part of Limassol.

Once this was the site of the monastery, which was a "branch" of the famous monastery Hrisoroyatissa, located in the Troodos mountains, near Paphos. After the invasion of Famagusta by the Turkish troops, the monastery was destroyed, and in its place appeared a small Church. Only in 1919 was erected the present Church in honor of the Holy Trinity.

This is truly a magnificent white building with red roof tiles is not like the traditional Christian churches of the island, which appeared in the early Christian period. In contrast, this structure is replete with many decorative details. The Church is cross-shaped, its roof crowned with a large Central dome, and on both sides of the entrance are two high bell tower. The entrance is framed by columns and arches, decorated with exquisite carvings. Tall and narrow Windows in each building solemnity.

Inside the temple is so magnificent and ornate as the outside. Its walls are almost completely covered with colorful murals depicting scenes from the Bible and images of saints. In the center behind the iconostasis is the image of the virgin Mary with little Jesus in her arms. The main attraction of the temple is the icon of St. Trinity in a silver frame.

The Church is still functioning, it often hosts wedding ceremonies and baptisms. This place is fairly popular among both the local population and tourists, so there is almost always a lot of people.
