The aviation Museum is located near the city of linköping, at the airbase Malmen, where in 1912 Baron Karl Sidestream started his flight school. Today training at the Royal Swedish aviation school for training aircraft Saab 105 (SK 60). Along with the army Museum in Stockholm Aviation Museum is part of the state Association of museums of military history.

The Museum's collection includes aircraft, engines, instruments and uniforms. The Museum has its own research centre with a library and archive containing books, periodicals, plans, photos, and personal files relating to aviation.

The Museum has existed since 1984. Initially it was a Museum dedicated to the squadron F3 Malmslätt, whose discovery marked the beginning of the state Museum in Malone, the cradle of Swedish aviation. In 1989, the Museum has undergone further expansion, with a second showroom, which allowed him to put more exhibits. In 2010 the Museum restoration works were carried out, and it was considerably enlarged in size. Today the exhibition is divided into sections: Pioneers of aviation (description of the early events in the history of Swedish aviation in the period 1910-1926 yy.); Between the wars (section dedicated to the creation of the Swedish air force and early development of the Swedish aircraft industry in the period 1926-1939 yy.); The second world war (the rise of Swedish air force and the first SAAB aircraft in the period 1939-1945.); Aviation technology; Sweden during the cold war (exhibition of apparatus made in case of war in 1950-1980). Besides the permanent exhibition there are often houses temporary exhibitions and thematic events.
