Castle of Schallaburg is in the region of the Wachau valley, 5 km from Melk in Lower Austria. Lower Austria is the land of fortresses and castles. No other region in the country has as many ancient fortresses and magnificent castles of the past centuries.

The Central part of the castle was built in the middle ages, in 1572. Castle has a distinctive appearance when the prosperous dynasty of Losenstein created a HOMESTEAD for himself, modeled on an Italian Palazzo, but the focus was on an imposing silhouette of the castle, which can be seen from afar today.

Generous size yard for tournaments, ladders and unique decorative sculpture testify to the prosperity of the owners, their love for art. Decoration mosaic, with 1600 individual tiles, depicts vivid scenes of mythological characters, gods and fantasy creatures, all created very believable. One of the figures represents "Hundefräulein" (female human figure with the head of a dog), the distinctive character of local legends. At the gate leading into the castle, there are two large dragon, 30 meters long and 6 meters in height each, which are a favorite place of entertainment for children.

Rich in historical interiors of the castle of Schallaburg are ideal for annual exhibitions on the history of culture, Ethnography and modern history. In 2012, the castle will host an exhibition of Byzantine culture and the East with many treasures, and in 2013, visitors will be able to discover the world of legendary Indian Maharaja.

A few steps from the castle lies a beautiful Park, designed in the style of gardens of the Renaissance. A green oasis with an area of over 6,500 square meters with fruit trees and flowers designed for the whole family in the fresh air.
