The lake Laguna de Bay is the largest lake in the Philippines located on the island of Luzon. Its area is 949 square kilometers, making it also the third largest freshwater lake in South-East Asia. The maximum length of the lake is 41 km, the width is 36 km, the Average depth of the lake is small – only 2, 8 meters, and the maximum is 20 meters. Laguna de Bay 21 the river flows, and flows only one – Pasig, dividing the country's capital Manila into two parts.

On the lake there are two Islands – Talk and wonder. Talim famous for its bamboo thickets, from which the locals make different furniture. The name of the lake Laguna de Bay has been named after the town of Bay, located on its shore. The locals calls it the Lagoon – hence the name Luzon province of Laguna. In the pre-Hispanic period, the lake was known as Pulasan Kazumura, and later as Pulilan.

It is believed that the lake was formed as a result of two major volcanic eruptions that occurred about a million years ago and about 27-29 thousand years ago. On the southern shore of the island of Talim you can see evidence of the volcanic history of the Lagoon – explosion craters MAARS.

Today the lake is used for different purposes, primarily for navigation of passenger vessels. It is also a source of water for nearby hydroelectric and agricultural enterprises. On the shores of lake develops recreational activities and fisheries. The water quality of the Lagoon and its overall condition are carefully monitored because of the critical importance of this freshwater source for the development of nearby regions.

Laguna de Bay has had an enormous influence on the culture of the peoples who lived on its banks, - the traces of this influence can be seen everywhere, ranging from folk medicine to architecture. For example, children suffering from epistaxis, was taken at dawn to plunge headlong into the lake water. And for roofs roofs traditional Filipino houses "NIPA" previously used bamboo growing on the banks of the Lagoon.
