The Church of San Isidro is one of the main churches of the Spanish capital, a Church with a rich and interesting history. It was built in the first half of the 17th century and is a fine example of Baroque style. The author of the project was the architect Pedro Sanchez, who erected a Church for the monks of the Jesuit order. The Church was named the patron Saint of Madrid, revered by all Saint Isidore the Farmer. Inside the Church the relics of this Saint, moved here in the second half of the 18th century.

At one time the Church of San Isidro was considered to be the Cathedral of Madrid, and still it plays a major role in the religious life of the city.

In 1767 by king Carlos III the Jesuit order was expelled from Spain. At the same time under the supervision of the architect Ventura Rodriguez's work have been done to change the interior of the Church and of some elements of the facade. Designed by the architect also created new sanctuary and the altar. The interior of the Church impresses with its grandeur and richness of decoration. Unfortunately, during the Civil war the interior of the Church was partially destroyed.
