The Church of San Miguel (San Miguel Church) was built in 1630-ies in Manila in appreciation of the Spanish Governor-General, who narrowly escaped death during a military campaign. The Church also provided support and assistance to Japanese Christians, who fled from persecution during the reign of the feudal regime of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Since many of these exiles were samurai, that is the soldiers, the Church was dedicated to the Archangel Michael (or St. Miguel in Spanish), the great Martyr. The present Church, known for its amazingly symmetrical bell towers-twins, built in the European Baroque style. It is located near the government Palace Malacanang and is a mandatory part of the excursion program. In front of the Church is broken up a nice little area with tropical trees and flowers and fountains, which blends in well with the religious structure.
