In a beautiful Park Fitzroy gardens in Melbourne is one of the main attractions of Australia, the so – called captain cook's Cottage. In fact, the famous English traveler in this house lived – the house was built by his parents James and grace cook in 1755 in the village of great Aiton (UK). But the researchers are confident that captain cook was at least a guest in this house, visiting his father and mother.

In 1933, the former mistress of the house, the woman decided to sell it with the condition that the building itself will remain in England. As a result of long negotiations we managed to convince to sign an agreement in which the word "England" was replaced by the word "Empire". So the house became the property of the Australian Government, which has offered him £ 800, which is almost three times the original price.

Interestingly, all expenses for the purchase of the house and its carriage on the "green continent" took upon himself a businessman from Melbourne Russell Grimwade. In 1934 the house was dismantled, Packed in a box 253 and 40 barrels and transported to Australia. Questions where exactly to recreate the house that has huge historical significance for all Australians, did not arise – Grimwade gave it to the people of Victoria for the hundredth anniversary of the founding of Melbourne. Around the cottage were planted cuttings from the ivy that grew on the front lawn cook. Their cut in advance and brought to Australia with the home itself.

Today around the cottage cook laid out a real English garden. The house is considered a historical landmark, although very few things that are in it, really belonged to the family cook. However, its interior, household objects and utensils reflect the life of the era of the great Navigator.
