In Monastir, on the territory of the medieval is near Bourguiba Mausoleum — the tomb of the renowned statesman and the first President of Tunisia. The construction of the Mausoleum began in 1963 in the Western part close to Ribat of Sousse, when part of the cemetery of Sidi El Mesri were taken for the erection of the tomb of the first President and his family. The mausoleum of Habib Bourguiba a broad Avenue, lined with multi-colored marble tiles and planted with trees and shrubs.

Before entering the Mausoleum are the two minarets with Golden domes, which begins near graceful colonnade, topped with a green roof. The height of each minaret is 25 meters, so they can be seen already from the beginning of the alley.

Above the main building of the Mausoleum rises gold ribbed dome on an octagonal drum, and at a little distance from him visible three green domes. They are crowned by gilded crescents. Next to the main building of the Mausoleum is the Museum of Habib Bourguiba. It stores photos, important documents and personal belongings of the President.
