The city in its day was the fashion capital of the Czech Republic, called Novy Jicin and is 32 km from Ostrava. In 1799, in nový jičín was opened manufacturing ladies hats and men's cylinders. According to detractors from neighboring towns, the Hat Museum is the only thing that can be seen in nový jičín.
