The city in its day was the fashion capital of the Czech Republic, called Novy Jicin and is 32 km from Ostrava. In 1799, in nový jičín was opened manufacturing ladies hats and men's cylinders. The factory was called "Jokela" and released an unusually beautiful specimen, which was in love, without exaggeration, the whole of Europe. Hats from nový Jičín enjoyed the crazy demand. Bought them aristocrats and representatives of the Royal family, the rich bourgeois and creative people. And although the factory has produced thousands of hats, sunk into Oblivion, many hats have survived to our days. They became the backbone of the collection cylinder and hats, which is now exhibited in the city Museum. The Museum has allocated the town hall, built in the XVI century and is considered one of the most beautiful city skylines. The Museum was opened in 1949 and has since worked without interruption. The most valuable exhibits are the hats that once belonged to famous people, for instance, And. Iracema, F. Palacha and so on.
Factory producing headgear, still works in the city. However, now it's called "Obtained".
According to detractors from neighboring towns, the Hat Museum is the only thing that can be seen in nový jičín. To make sure that they are wrong, it is worth going Masarykovo square Jarocinski castle, built in the Gothic style in 1540's, and the Old Central post office, the arches of which remember the Russian Tsar Alexander I and his commander A. I. Suvorov. The rest of the buildings surrounding the square, are also architectural monuments.
