September 7 (August 26, old style) 1812 near the village of Borodino took place on 12-hour battle, during which the French managed to capture the position of the Russian army in the centre and left wing. The battle ended with the retreat of the French army after the cessation of hostilities to their original positions. The Russian army retreated, but kept fighting capability and soon drove Napoleon out of Russia. The battle of Borodino is one of the bloodiest battles of the nineteenth century.

The main exposition of the Museum-reserve "Borodino field" created by the 190th anniversary of the battle of Borodino, located in the building at the battery Rajewski. The basis of the exhibition are the original ones associated with battle, the uniforms and weapons of the soldiers of both armies, colours, standards and awards, personal belongings of participants of the battle, documents and maps, findings from the field – cores, grenades, buckshot and lead bullets. It includes works of fine art created by participants and contemporaries of the events of the Patriotic war of 1812, and artists of the XIX – XX centuries. The full picture of the battle Royal on August 26, appears to visitors through the show in one big hall of the relics of heroes, four picturesque sketches of F. A. Rubo to the Borodino panorama, the diorama “Battle for Bagration's fleches”, layout of the field of battle.

Opposite the hill, which housed the battery Rajewski, a monument to the glory of the three armed forces, defending the fortification. At the base of the monument lie the remains of commander P. I. Bagration.

The 100th anniversary of the battle of Borodino on historical field installed 34 of the monument, most of which are built on voluntary donations.
