Schoinousa is a small Greek island in the Aegean sea (Small Cyclades). It is located about 6 km South of Chora between the Islands Koufonisia and Eraclea. The area of the island is only 8, 51 sq. km. Like other Small island group of the Cyclades, Schoinousa was inhabited in prehistoric times.

Island Schoinousa with its picturesque hills and valleys, a rugged coastline with many sheltered coves and magnificent beaches is considered one of the most beautiful among small Aegean Islands. Although in recent years actively developing the tourism sector, the island has managed to retain its unique flavour and can still offer your guests a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere away from the bustle and congestion of people, so characteristic of most modern resorts.

On the island only two settlements - the administrative center of the island is Chora (Panagia) and the village of Messaria. These are small traditional villages with its typical Cycladic architecture. Island's main port of Mersin is about 1, 2 km from Chora and is considered one of the best harbors in the Aegean sea for small boats.

Among the attractions of the island it is worth noting the Church of the Annunciation of the virgin Mary, the Church of Panayia Acatis, windmills and a small but very interesting Ethnographic Museum, where you will be able to see this traditional local costumes, a variety of old tools and household utensils. But among the natural beauty of the island is the most interesting cave Maniatis and cave Fishers, located near the harbour. However, the attractions of the island include the superb beaches of Schoinousa - Tzipori, Livadia, Psili Ammos, Lioliou, Ficio, Almiros and others.

On the island a great many species of endemic plants, and this is one of the reasons that Schoinousa part of the European Natura 2000. The island is also an important staging point during seasonal migration for many birds and will be of interest to lovers of ornithology.
