In N. Novgorod Pechersky ascension monastery in 2003 opened the Church-archaeological Museum "History of the Nizhny Novgorod diocese". Two-storey tower, which houses the Museum, located in the heart of the men's monastery, near ascension Cathedral.

The main Museum exhibition showcases the history of the centuries-old monastery in Chronicles and documents (16-18 centuries.), the true subjects of Church utensils, household items and vestments of the clergy of all ranks. The Museum houses the oldest archaeological finds found on the original site of the monastery (the monastery was founded in the 13th century, and in 1597 was destroyed by the collapse of the mountain and moved to its present location). The most valuable exhibits of the Museum are: the forged metal doors and cross the seventeenth century with the Church of the assumption, outdoor cast iron plates of the the gate of the temple and St. Euphemius and mortgage (cast iron) commemorative plates with inscriptions in Church Slavonic language, which tells of the laying of the ascension Cathedral (1630 g.) and visit the Pechersk monastery of the Emperor Alexander II and his wife (1858).). In addition to artifacts and Chronicles the history of the oldest monastery presented in the form of reproductions of the paintings, which reported the events of the Russian history and role in these events abbots and Church leaders Pechersk monastery.

In the showcases of the Museum of Church manuscripts and early printed books, brochures and hierarchal certificates of ascetics and priests, all male monastery. In the final part of the monastery of the exposition on the ground floor of the building tells the story of the last pre-revolutionary period of the monastery and the lives of the abbots.

On the second floor of the building (in three large halls) presents the history of the founding and development of the Nizhny Novgorod diocese in the various exhibits, documentary evidence and objects of religious art. In the interior of the hall with pre-revolutionary periodicals, telling about the Ministry of the Nizhny Novgorod saints, exhibited genuine photographs of M. P. Dmitriev and A. O. Karelin, where you can see the monasteries, chapels and churches of Nizhny Novgorod to 1917, many of which were destroyed.
