The old Ladoga fortress is located on the Bank of the Volkhov river near the bridge over the river Ladozhka falls. The first fortress on this site was built in 1114, at the same time inside the fortress Church was born. However, the current appearance of the fortress dates to the XV century.

Inside the fortress are two churches. St. George Church is a typical ancient temple of XII century: the helmet dome, vaulted roof. Main attraction of the temple - wall murals, made in the middle of the XII century In the apse of the altar is an image of virgin Mary cycle; in the apse of diakonia - military stories and saints. The largest mural is the image of St. Nicholas, surrounded by a peculiar frame of paintings imitating marble. Best preserved domed composition "Ascension" and images of the prophets in the walls of the drum.

Nearby is a wooden Church Demetrios 1731, is one of the rare urban wooden churches. It is fairly simple and has one dome and covered with shingles. Inside the Church Demetrios is an exposition of the regional Museum.
