Olomouc can rightly be called the city of fountains. There are very many that speak perfect English. Ancient and modern, Baroque and minimalist, the fountains are a real landmark for the town. They are incredibly proud of the locals. Before the fountains performed the task of ensuring that residents of the Czech towns with water. With the advent of many ancient aqueduct water tanks were demolished, but not in Olomouc. Here they decided to leave - and rightly so. Now the fountains are mentioned in all guidebooks to Olomouc and arouse interest of tourists.
The Triton fountain was created in the Baroque style in 1709. Inspired by the eponymous fountain in Rome, which at the time worked for Lorenzo Bernini, the famous local master václav Render has created a two-tier sculptural masterpiece. Each level is a shell, which is supported by dolphins and tritons. Top of the composition statue of a boy who manages manual dragons. The fountain looks unusual, largely thanks to the skill of the Creator.
Originally the fountain was placed at a busy intersection, where he stood until 1890. Then a permanent location for it was chosen as the Republic square.
In 2010, the fountain cleansed by moss and brought him in proper form. Workers shared with the press that because of the constant contact with moisture sculpture was cracked. If city officials took a moment to reconstruction, it is possible that the fountain would have just crumbled under the influence of aggressive environment.
