National Museum of international art in Osaka is located on Nakanoshima island, between the rivers Dojima and Tosabori, near the Museum of science.
The Museum was opened in 1977 - after the Osaka international exhibition Expo-70, during which he worked as the pavilion of fine arts. In 2004 the Museum moved to a new building because the old building could not accommodate all the information stored in the exhibits, and also became quite dilapidated. The project is the first building was designed by Japanese architect Arata Isozaki, and the new project was created by American Cesar Pelli.
Thanks to the talent Pelli, Osaka received another unusual attraction is the Museum, most of which is underground, namely the three floors of the four. Cesar Pelli also known as the author of other world landmarks, including the Petronas twin towers in Malaysia's capital airport and John F. Kennedy in new York.
To place the Museum under the ground, it was decided due to the fact that in the Central part of Osaka was not much space to land. In the end, the underground was built sealed capsule with a three-layer walls, in-depth 22 meters. The construction of the Museum was conducted for five years by the company of Cesar Pelli and two Japanese companies - Tomoki Hashimoto and Мitsubishi Heavy Industries.
Above-ground floor of the building was designed and constructed in such a way as to provide the "dungeon" light and air circulating in the ventilation system. The aerial part of the Museum looks like an avant-garde design of metal tubes. Himself Pelli said portrayed thus a reed swaying in the wind. The total area of the Museum is 13, 5 thousand square meters.
