The Church of Saint-eugène-Sainte-cécile, located near Montmartre, has the feature that distinguishes it from many Parisian churches, which, as a rule, was the work of centuries. The construction of the Saint-eugène-Sainte-cécile lasted only 20 months: from June 1854 to December 1855. The secret of speed – in the materials that were used by architects Louis-Auguste Boileau and Andre-Louis Lusson.
Amateur Gothic revival style of Louis-Auguste Boileau was, moreover, a follower of the architect eugène Emmanuel viola-Le-Duc, a passionate supporter of the use in the restoration of the monuments of modern materials. Under the influence of a teacher Boileau conceived the building in the shape of the Cathedral of the XIII century, but with lightweight and durable metal frame. First in France, the use of a metal frame in the construction of religious buildings and to significantly reduce construction time.
The Church is relatively small, at 50 meters in length, 25 in width. However, inside it looks huge: cast columns of the nave a thickness of 30 centimeters not bothering to survey the abundantly light-flooded space. Regardless of where the visitor is, he can see the entire scope of the Church, filled with huge bright lights of stained glass Windows and beautiful chandeliers during the Second Empire. In the chapel of the virgin Mary is a magnificent statue of the virgin and Child work EME Napoleon Perry. The stained glass Windows of the first level of the nave correspond to the fourteen stations of the Cross, the way of the Savior. The pulpit, pews, confessionals of the Church are rich thread.
Originally the Church was named after St Eugene, a companion and disciple of the first Bishop St. Dionysius of Paris. Saint Eugene was killed by the Romans during the anti-Christian campaigns of the Emperor Maximian (III century). In 1952 the parish priest Canon Boni asked the Vatican with the request for the dedication of the temple of Saint Cecilia, patroness of musicians: the fact that the Church is close to the National Conservatory of music and declamation. Thus, since the second half of the twentieth century, the Church is under double heavenly protection.
