Dendrological garden. S. F. Kharitonov is one of the "green" attractions in Pereslavl-Zalessky. The garden is on a hill, in the southwestern part of the city, overlooking the scenic panorama of lake Pleshcheyevo and ancient city.

Dendrological garden was founded at the initiative of Sergey F. Kharitonov, honored Russian Forester. In 1950 S. F. Kharitonov seriously led serious introduction. The first experiments on the acclimatization of hardwood and softwood were performed on the plot.

In 1952, the forest area allocated in a vacant lot land plot of 1 hectare, where they were planted with introduced plants. Systematic work on the introduction and selection and expansion of a collection of shrub and tree species were started in the 1960s.

Since 1962 area of the arboretum has grown to 20 acres. Were laid chokeberry plantation, Siberian cedar, Siberian larch, various forms of eating, etc.

In 1978 it started major work on the development of new areas of the garden according to the master plan of expansion and reconstruction dendrogarden.

The project dendrological plantings was made in an infinity style. For this project the placement of the plants occurred on Botanical-geographical basis. All plants are presented in eight geographical divisions: the Crimea and the Caucasus, North America, far East, Siberia, Japan and China, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Western Europe. Plants were planted in groups of varying density and shape at the age of 3-5 years.

Together with the departments-displays were also incorporated experimental plots belonging to various academic institutions in the country.

Modern dendrological garden is a great work of the forestry departments and forestry with the participation of the administration and municipal educational institutions. Thanks to them, tree nursery is a natural object, which is of great scientific, cultural, economic and educational importance.

At present, the area of the arboretum is 58 hectares. There are more than six items of shrubs and trees that are of 129 genera and 43 families. The most numerous representatives of Rosaceae, pine, maple, birch, willow, caprifoliaceae.

Plants in the dendrogarden planted in alley plantings, groups, among them are many paths from which visitors can easily explore the collection.

Today the activities dendrogarden is a broad industrial, educational and research work.

Tree nursery in Pereslavl-Zalesskiy is a huge collection of vegetable Fund, among the instances which you can find plants from all over the world. In the garden there are two pilot plot: all-Russian scientific research Institute of forestry and mechanization, growing economically valuable conifers; and the Main Botanical garden of RAS with a population apricot; and exposition of the Institute of medicinal plants useful in the treatment plan plants, where they conduct research and experimental work, demonstrating achievement of plant breeding and genetics.

Long practical activity of specialists dendrological garden in acclimatization and introduction of plants identified five hundred and eleven taxa of shrubs and trees that are suitable for widespread use in landscaping. Having such a priceless result, tree nursery has successfully introduced it in the Yaroslavl region.

Taking into account the interests of the region's population and the trend of the reduction in the non-Chernozem zone of Russia areas of fruit orchards, garden exposition berry and fruit crops, where it sold plants to the population.

Today dendrological garden is used as an object of educational and cultural destination. It is visited individually or as part of tours environmentalists, forest industry specialists, pupils and students, city residents and its guests. In dendrological garden themed lessons, workshops, practice for students, there are groups, schools-lectures, contributing to the education of ecological culture.
