Museum of Alexander Nevsky was opened in Pereslavl-Zalessky on 6 December 2012, the commemoration day of this Russian Saint. This Museum has no analogues. The location for the Museum was not chosen by chance, because Pereslavl-Zalessky is the birthplace of the Grand Duke. Here the name of Alexander Nevsky has always been held in high esteem. The Museum was created as a tribute to the great countryman and one of the key figures of the Russian history.

Alexander Nevsky was born in 1220 in the family of Prince Yaroslav Vsevolodovich and Ryazan Princess Feodosia Igorevna. He was the grandson of Vsevolod the Big Nest. The first mention of Alexander Nevsky belong to the time (year 1228, when reigning in Novgorod Yaroslav Vsevolodovich, moved into his family inheritance – Pereslavl-Zalessky. He left in the care of trusted boyars in Novgorod two young sons Alexander and Theodore. Fedor died in 1233, and Alexander was the eldest son of Yaroslav.

In 1236 Alexander put the Novgorod Principality, as Yaroslav is left to reign in Kiev, and in 1239, married Princess Alexandra of Polotsk Bratislava. At the beginning of the reign of Alexander had to do strengthening Novgorod, from the East because he was threatened raids of the Mongol-Tatars. In 1237, when the separate Livonian troops of the Teutonic knights and swordsmen joined forces against Russia, Alexander built on the river Shelon several fortresses to strengthen the Western border.
