The landscape Park "Alexandria" of Peterhof is located East of the Lower Park and is separated from it by a stone wall carved Animal, Nikolsky and Sea gate, on the other hand has a common border with manor Znamenka. Northern border, "Alexandria" passes through the Gulf of Finland, South along the highway St. Petersburg – Lomonosov (Oranienbaum).
The area of the Park is 115 hectares. Seaside landscape Park "Alexandria" is situated on 2 terraces: the lower (coastal) and the upper, on which were built the main buildings of the Palace-pack-ensemble Alexandria: the farm Palace, the Palace "Cottage" and the Chapel.
The terrain is allowed to form all sorts of picturesque landscapes, which are replaced by meadows and hills, deep ravine and gentle slopes, narrow winding lanes and wide tree-lined avenues. The unique charm of the landscape, "Alexandria" brings the sea, which is visible from many points in the Park.
A distinctive feature of "Alexandria" – the diversity of green spaces. Here grow oaks, lindens, birches, maples, poplars, ash-trees. You can meet many unique, exotic shrub and tree species. Open green meadows alternate with groups of shrubs and trees. For several decades, "Alexandria" was enriched with various kinds of decorative details: pergolas, sculptures, kurokami, where we applied the elements of Gothic architecture. For example, near the Palace "Cottage" were installed Gothic sofas with high backs. And now near the Palace you can see a masterfully crafted green metal gazebo.
Sublimely romantic nature Park attached and Ruin the bridge which was thrown across a deep ravine. After the great Patriotic war from the Ruin bridge preserved Eastern abutment and 2 pedestal with a huge vases made from Pudost stone. The bridge was named so because during its construction remained near Menshikov Palace ruins.
For composite design, rational use of terrain, the selection and layout of plantations "Alexandria" is an excellent sample of the Park landscape style and is one of the outstanding monuments of Russian landscape architecture of XIX century.
The main compositional axis of the Park is St. Nicholas Avenue, which is straightforward cross over from West to East – from the same gate in the wall, made of stone, to a Large pond, where it connects with the interweaving of several alleys and, fringing the pond, out to the Eastern boundary of the Park. St. Nicholas Avenue divides the Park into North and South area: coastal and mountainous. Other roads, "Alexandria" characterized by tortuosity, characteristic of the landscape of the Park design. Alleys are created with subtle calculation that allows you to examine the landscape with the most successful points of view, giving the illusion of a volumetric space, the variety and extent of its natural environment.
