Paliastomi lake is a freshwater lake on the outskirts of the port city of Poti, located in the Colchis lowland. The lake looks more like the Lyman because it is nurtured by the waters flowing into it of the two rivers, Caparco and Pechory. Lake water is characterized by high concentration of peat deposits and sulfide.
Paliastomi lake, with a total area of 18, 2 sq. m., reaches a depth of 3, 2 m. its Main feature is that up to 1933, this lake was considered to be freshwater, but it turned out that it partially enters the sea water from the Black sea. Even this lake, located in the humid subtropical zone, is unique in that its water almost never freezes in winter. In 1961 archaeologists at the bottom of lake Paliastomi were found traces of human settlements about II century of our era. In search of the ancient city in 1985 was sent a special expedition.
