The hradcanska (the place is a large square in front of Prague Castle. There is always noisy, crowded, people taking pictures of the facades of the Castle, its gates, and bars, and only some tourists pay attention to other buildings on this square. One of such buildings – Martinici Palace. It is located on the North side of the square.

The Palace looks very unusual, thanks sgraffito on biblical themes that cover its walls. Consider the images can be very long, anticipating the stories and decoding the allegory.

The Palace was built in the XVI century on the site of the houses inhabited by the priests of the temple of St. Vitus. One of these houses belonged to Peter Parler, who is the man to whom we owe the construction of the main Cathedral of Prague. Houses specially not destroyed, they were destroyed by the fire. The ashes could not long be empty. 10 years after the fire in 1541 land for the construction of the Palace was bought by the nobleman Ondrej Tafl. He ordered the construction of the residence, but after awhile decided to get rid of the protracted construction. The new owner is still unfinished Palace became jiří Birgit from the Glass. From hometown new owner of the Palace got its present name.

Thanks to the efforts of George Borgata, the Palace was completed in record time. It was decorated in a classic style and adorned with paintings, preserved.

Another large-scale reconstruction was expecting a Palace in the middle of the XVII century. One of the descendants of the Glass completely rebuilt the interior of the Palace, ensuring that the building is considered to be one of the most chic in Prague.

However, in the XIX-XX, the Palace was divided into rented apartments, some rooms were given over to workshops. Only in 1953 the Czech government realized what a wealth disappears under their noses. The building was updated, cleared away layers of dirt, and now it appears in front of tourists in all its splendor.
