The Opera house was built in the neo-Rococo style, and since the construction has not changed. Its construction was initiated by the German-speaking inhabitants of Prague in 1883. The future of the theatre was called the New German. Worked on the project by the famous Viennese architects.
For many years on the stage of this theater staged the works of German composers. To act here considered it an honor many other world stars. However, it was not until the outbreak of the second world war: to have a German theatre has become a luxury, and the building passed into the ownership of the Czech government. And although during the occupation of Prague in the theatre continued German productions to please the leaders of Germany, it was temporary. After 1945, the theatre becomes a Czech and is named in honor of the Fifth of May. The first play in the future of Opera in the postwar years, was the product of B. Smetana. Crowd rediscovered the theater, people shaft went on all views, but with the advent of the National theatre, the enthusiasm of the audience faded a bit.
With time in the theater's repertoire is firmly established ballets. Although the Opera house is small, it is not just chic conducted concerts featuring celebrity world. In 1992 the theatre was renamed the Opera.
To visit here for the New year – the dream of many Prague residents. The fact is that at the Opera house in Prague new year's eve is a great ball.
