Nerudova street in Prague is a Museum under the open sky. It contains some of the most beautiful homes that can be considered the palaces.
As you know, many houses in Prague have their name. This custom appeared in ancient times, when houses were not numbered. The names of the buildings had signs that the hosts strengthened on the facades. Thus, the most famous in Prague house "Summer and spring" No. 33 on the Nerudova street is the former Palace of Baron Bretfeld. Before its construction in this area of the lesser town was occupied by gorgeous vineyards, which has suffered after a major fire in the sixteenth century. To recover them made no sense, and then the land was given to the construction of the house, subsequently passed into the ownership of Baron Josef Bretfeld.
The new owner undertook a major reconstruction. In which appeared the Palace in the Baroque style, decorated with stucco decorations. Ah, balls and carnivals saw this Palace! Philanthropist and lover of the arts, Bretfeld arranged here truly enormous techniques, which gathered all know Prague. Even Mozart himself, coming to Prague, preferred to visit with dear Baron. It is in the Palace of Bretfeld took his acquaintance with another famous person – Giacomo Casanova, who was also a close friend of the owner of the house.
The walls of the ballroom in those days was adorned with fine oil murals, which depicted the views of Prague XVIII century. They managed to copy before a part of them was lost, and the other turned into something incomprehensible. Nowadays, the Palace belongs to one businessman, who is in no hurry to invest in its restoration.
