Spirit Mountain – cultural, historical and archaeological monument. Is the tract Lithuanian, near the village of Kirovo transferred to newly established district in the Pskov region. In ancient times there was a settlement, which was called Lithuanian. It was founded by the ancient tribes of the Slavic Krivichi. Around the settlement were located their burial in the form of burial mounds. As you know, settlements and burial mounds of the South – the only real monuments that testify to the life of these tribes. It is also believed that this mountain was a sacred site for first Baltic tribes, and then to the pagan Slavs to the acceptance of Christianity. According to one version, at the top of this hill stood a statue of an idol Persoons, which was one of the main gods, the object of worship of the ancient Baltic tribes, the ancestors of our contemporaries – Latvians and Lithuanians. In the era of the Slavs here, at the top, in his place stood a statue of Perun, the chief deity of the pagan Slavs. After occurred the Baptism of Rus, the idol was cast down, and his statue was placed a stone cross which was erected on the same location. It is believed that he survived until the era of the reign of Ivan the terrible and then allegedly went underground.

There is evidence that the Tsar Ivan the terrible before his death issued a decree on the establishment of the list of Holy places, which includes and spirit Mountain. Thus, already in the late 16th century, this mountain was already known among the other Holy places in Russia and also, like today, was a place of pilgrimage for many believers. Many testify that while climbing mount, the compass needle is guided under the action of electromagnetic field acting in the area. Today on the mountain stands a chapel dedicated to the descent of the Holy spirit, and around her rural cemetery. The construction of a chapel made of wood with three-meter walls are of frame construction and sheathed obraznymi boards. According to one version, this small chapel was built on the hill between the 16th and 19th centuries. According to another version, the date of its construction – 1910. The building is one – storey, octagonal in plan. To the West adjacent to the porch. Above the iron roof – a small drum and the head. Earlier over the dome of the chapel was a metal cross. Older locals say that once it was plated, but the time lost the gold layer. Later, the cross, as old icons, was stolen. Today the cross of the chapel was restored, and the icons that are in the temple were donated by parishioners. There are remains of an ancient thread.

Today, as before the revolution of 1917, the day after the feast of Trinity, it attracts many pilgrims on the mountain and held a worship service. In the festival there is a procession from the Church of the intercession in Opochka in the chapel of the Holy spirit. Also is a festive worship service and water service.

The stories of many of the pilgrims testify to the healing power of this place. Orthodox Christians believe that in the chapel of the Holy Spirit.
