Pomestie is a place located in the old Trinity bridge passing over the river Pskov. In the olden days it was crowned with temples, standing on the crossroads of the main streets of Samskola. Initially there was a wooden Church, which burned down in 1458. Pskov Prince Vladimir Andreevich, and Zinovy M. – staid Governor – decided to put an existing at the moment PlayNow Church, construction of which was completed in 1463. In the aisle of the Church of Cosmas and Damian were stored gunpowder intended for military needs, which caught fire and exploded in 1507 during the fire; it is worth mentioning that the chapel was completely destroyed. In 1860 the Church was rebuilt on the funds of the Church warden and Pskov merchant Afanasiev Matvei. During the great Patriotic War, the Church of Cosmas and Damian suffered serious damage and was almost completely burned. The Church bell tower collapsed under the impact of the bombs; the roof was destroyed and all the components of the wooden parts of the temple; the iconostasis was completely destroyed.
