City of military glory is one of the honorary titles of the Russian Federation, which can be assigned to specific cities for "resistance, heroism, the courage of the defenders of the city in a just war for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland."

July 22, 2010 was held the solemn opening of the stele called "Pskov – city of military glory", which was held in the town square of Victory. In this important ceremony was attended by the leaders of the city and region, the military, veterans, children and priests. In an important discovery for all the invited veterans was equipped with a special stand, where they accompanied the students and also pupils of club "Patriot". To honor and respect veterans, most of them needed help. At this time in Pskov reigned extraordinary heat, turning the ceremony into a real test. But, despite the difficulties, the ceremony came to see a considerable number of people. The ceremony began with a theatrical appeal to all those present, as well as the glorification of the great city of Pskov important and historically significant characters, including Prince Alexander Nevsky, Peter the great, Princess Olga, Prince Dovmont.
Right in front of the podium was held short in duration indicative of the battle among the soldiers re-enactors. After some time, the residents of the city of Pskov recalled the events of the great Patriotic War, and also about the incredible feat of sixth company. Shortly thereafter became active Marines with a demonstrative performance.

Respected and honorable right to be the first to open the stele, while cutting the ribbon was given to Andrey Turchak, Governor of Pskov region, Yevgeny Lukyanov – Plenipotentiary, Deputy representative of the President of SFSO, Ivan Searscom – the head of the city of Pskov, Sergei Pavlov – the participant of the great Patriotic War, Igor Vinogradsky – the commander of the 76th division, and no father Eusebius – the Metropolitan of Pskov and Velikoluksky. After the Grand opening, each of the invited guests congratulated the residents of the city with such a momentous day.

The first ceremony of delivery of diplomas on awarding the distinguished title of "City of military glory" was held on 7 may 2007. At the time, their certificates were given to heads of administrations of Orel, Kursk and Belgorod. The autumn of the same year, the incumbent President of the Russian Federation Putin Vladimir Vladimirovich in the Catherine hall of the famous Moscow Kremlin presented five letters to the mayors of their cities on awarding this honorary title. In the fall of 2009 in city Dmitrov was the Grand opening of the first Russian commemorative arrows under the title of "City of military glory". From March 2010 to November 2011, President Medvedev of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev has signed an important decrees and the rank of the cities of Russia, participating in the defense of our Fatherland and its conservation in the long history of development and formation of the Russian state.

With regard to architectural and sculptural solutions stele "City of military glory", it was officially approved by the Committee on institutional Affairs "Victory" in an open nationwide competition.

Memorial stele is a column of the Doric order, surmounted by the coat of arms of the Russian Federation, and set on a pedestal in the Central square area. A cartouche with the decree of the President is located on the front of the stele, and on the reverse side there is an image of the coat of arms. On all the corners of the square are exhibited sculptural reliefs depicting events in which the city received the title of "City of military glory".

Since 2011, the Bank of Russia began to produce coins of the same series, which are made of steel plated brass plated.
