Babolovo Palace is Babolovo Park in the town of Pushkin (Tsarskoe Selo). Is the object of cultural heritage of Russia.

The history of Babolovo Palace dates back to the 80 years of the XVIII century, when near the village of Barracks two miles from Tsarskoye Selo, in the swamps and lowlands, forested, Prince Grigori Aleksandrovich Potemkin gave the manor with a small landscaped garden.

In 1780 at the Grange was built manor house of wood, which after 5 years gave way to the stone Palace, built in 1785 by the plan I. Neyelov. Volumetric design of the project and many of its features suggest that in planning Babolovo Palace contributed and I. Starov, who at the time was building for Prince Palace in the Islands on the Neva river, giving it the character of the style "Gothic": castellated parapets, Windows with pointed roofs. Kind of Gothic buildings gave the Palace and 8-migrana tower with a tent covering.

Asymmetrical layout Babolovo Palace and the variety of shapes of the halls gave the building the singularity and originality. In the main room was fitted with a large marble tub to bathe on hot days.

Babolovo the Palace was a one-story summer structure. There was 7 rooms, each one could get into the Park.

Too distant location of the Palace led to his infrequent attendance and by 1791, the abandoned building had fallen into disrepair.

The second birth Babolovo Palace became his perestroika, made in the years 1824-1825 V. P. Stasov. Oval hall, the compositional center of the Palace. Its dimensions were significantly increased by the architect to ensure that you are able to place instead of the former baths with new marble – granite. The unique capacity of the monolith, containing 8000 buckets of water, was ordered by engineer Betancourt famous St. Petersburg stonecutter, Samson Sukhanov, who governed the creation of the Rostral columns at the Exchange on the spit of Vasilievsky island in St Petersburg and participated in the manufacture of the pedestal of the monument to Minin and Pozharsky in the capital. A giant piece of red granite with splashes of Labrador greenish tones, weighing more than 160 tons was delivered from one of the Finnish Islands. Have polished in place for 10 years during the period from 1818 po years.

The height of the bath is 196 cm, diameter – 533 cm, depth of 152 cm and a weight of 48 tons. Was first installed a pool, and then around the walls. Bath led cast-iron staircase with railing, holding on cast-iron columns and equipped with viewing platforms. All items were made on a cast iron foundry H. Byrd. Historian I. Yakovkin was told that this product is "the first in the world," and Professor J. Zembitskiy noted that this work deserves attention, because "from the time of the Egyptians knows nothing of such an enormous granite".

However Stasov wrote that by the highest order about the production of the dome from the stone, instead of the planned ceiling of wood over the oval room, built around a set of granite basin, it was necessary to increase the existing walls and foundations, are appropriate for the weight and thrust of this dome. For this purpose it was necessary to break the remaining part of the former hall and some of the adjacent walls of the Palace with their foundations. The architect has completed the work in 1829, reconstructed, only the main volume, and carefully preserved Gothic look of the building with Lancet Windows and a gear attic. The Palace's facade is plastered, cut stone and painted in brown color.

Babolovo Palace was severely damaged during the great Patriotic war. Collapsed its stone arches. Only one tub preserved. During the war the Germans tried to take her as a unique exhibit, but failed.

Currently the Palace is in ruins. It is anticipated restoration.
