Mount a Picket is a small hill on the Western edge of the Beshtau, which is located in the city of Pyatigorsk. A large part of the mountain is located on the left Bank of the river Podkumok. The absolute height of the mountain range is 565 m and the relative – up to 40 m. the mountain Area of over 140 hectares.

The name of the hill where now stands the mountain Picket, indicates previously located on top of the Cossack picket (in the 18th and 19th century), which led to the observation of surroundings. The picket and not hitherto discovered. On the mountain slopes was found two mound archaeological monuments of the early period. Crater, discovered during excavations of burial mounds attest to their robbery even before that time, as they were found by scientists. Therefore, all the contents of the graves that were in these mounds, lost without a trace.

North of mountain Picket Krasnoslobodsk is a cemetery, which in the second half of the twentieth century was the main cemetery of the city. The cemetery has several names, namely: Sloboda Konstantinopolsky, Kvartalisse and Novopyatigorsky.

Universal fame mount a Picket received in 1976 after he had become a venue for literary folk festival - Shukshin readings. On the East side of the Picket flows the river Fedulova, a tributary of the Katun river and the South side of Katun flows.

From the mountain top Picket, offers a vivid panorama of the scenery of the foothills, floodplains of the river Katun, also from there you can see the mountains Babylon and Monakhova. These gorgeous and memorable places often mentioned in literary and cinematic creations of the writer V. M. Shukshin.
