On the North-Western coast of Rhodes island are the ruins of an abandoned ancient city Camaros. The ancient settlement was founded by the Dorians in ancient times. Later the area was inhabited by the Achaeans. Camaro was one of the most powerful cities on the island and along with Lindos and Ialysos in the 5th century BC have teamed up to create the powerful state of Rhodes.

The ancient city Camaro was built on three levels. The first archaeological excavations were conducted by the Alfred Biliotti and Auguste Salzmann in the years 1852-1864, and then was discovered the ancient Acropolis.
