To 1845 in Orthodoxy moved about 120 Latvians, in connection with which the Bishop Filaret in January of 1845 I was sent a petition to allow the parish to Commission services in the Latvian language. The answer to the petition was received in April of the same year. It was decided to give Riga the cemetery the Church of the intercession of the parish. The first worship service that was held by the priest Jacob Mikhailov, was held on 29 April 1845. This priest served in the temple until 1859.

In 1842 St.The Synod gives leave father Jacob Mikhailov to lead the translation of Orthodox Christian books in the Latvian language. In 1858 occurred the separation of the intercession Church from the Alexander Nevsky Church and the Association of Latvian and Russian parishes into a single parish. After the merger the number of parishioners grew to 1,200 people. Services were held on a mixed Slavic-Latvian language.

In 1867 which the funds were provided by the government for the needs of the parish, was built the second cemetery Church of the ascension, designed for 500 people. At the end of 1875 in the Church of the intercession was a fire that destroyed the temple. In 1879 was consecrated the newly built Church of the protecting veil, and then it goes the Russian part of the parish. Latvian parish remains at the ascension Church in which worship services begin to take place in the Latvian language.

In 1896 took the decision to expand ascension Church, as the parish increases so that the current Church does not accommodate all the parishioners. The rebuilding of the temple was carried out under the project of the diocesan architect V. I. Lunskoye. In 1909 the Church was electrified.

In the years of Soviet power ascension Church was valid, there are regular services were held, though the Church tried to close. Since 1993 thanks to the efforts of warden of the parish, and parishioners who donated, the temple is undergoing renovation and restoration work. During repair, was replaced roof and a Central cross. Installed a new bell, an interesting fact is that the money necessary for its purchase, was collected in two Sundays, with just the amount and cost of the bell. A few years ago in the Church again began its work Sunday school, with classes for different age groups. In addition, themed camps, during which children and parents learn, sculpt, paint, learn to care for each other, go camping, play sports. In 2001, during the Liturgy on the feast day it was noticed that the icon of the Iveron Mother of God in the iconostasis, the myrrh-streaming. In 2007 celebrated 140 years since the construction of the Church of the ascension, and in 2008 – net since its lighting.
