Religious sanctuary are located along the Appian way to the catacombs, where there are paintings of the early Christians who used these rooms for prayer meetings and burial of the dead.

Immediately after Arlinski walls begins a series of burials located along the Appian way; the most famous of them – the tomb of Cecilia metella. In 1302, Pope Boniface VIII gave this tomb in possession of the caetani family, and those included it in his fortified castle. At the end of the sixteenth century was made of marble cladding of the tomb.

The catacombs of San Callisto are still little investigated. They are arranged on four levels and the length of the tunnels is about 20 km away. Some rooms were decorated with frescoes.

Above the catacombs of San Sebastiano stands the homonymous Church. Numerous drawings on the walls of the refectory depict scenes of worship of the apostles Peter and Paul, whose remains were hidden somewhere in the catacombs.
