State puppet theatre, located in the city of Rostov-on-don on the University street, is one of the oldest theaters in Russia. The history of the Rostov theatre began with a group of puppeteers who worked for kids in the 20-ies of the last century. The puppeteers were so talented and successful that the Azov-black sea regional Committee of Komsomol decided to create a puppet theatre. Its doors to visitors it first opened in 1935

At various times, puppet theatre was directed by such Directors as: B. sakhnovskij and L. stelmachowicz. For over 35 years the institution was headed by people's artist of Russia V. Belkov whose name is theatre. The history of the Rostov state puppet theatre remembers all the wonderful artists who stood at the origins of its opening, among them: Isaeva S. M. Kushnarenko, A. Derkach, Ulybyshev S., Pidko G., Zubkov L. and many others.

The repertoire of the puppet theatre is based on the best and most popular world literary works - "Red riding Hood", "Cinderella", "puss in boots (Perrault sh), "Star boy" (Wilde), "the Little Prince" (Saint-exupéry), the Nutcracker (Hoffman), "the Ugly duckling", "the little Mermaid", "the Tinderbox "Thumbelina" (Andersen), Cipollino (J. Rodari), "Twelve months," "Three little pigs" (Mikhalkov), "Mowgli" (Kipling), "boldly buzzing Fly" (Chukovsky), "the Dwarf the Nose" (Hauff), "Circus of Principal" (harms.), "The scarlet flower" (Aksakov), "the frog Princess" and so on.

Puppet theatre repeatedly, with the huge recognition of the theater community and success with the audience, has toured not only in Russia but also abroad. He also became the Laureate of many international and national festivals.

Today the Rostov state puppet theatre is one of the best theatres for children and their parents.
