The Museum of railway transport in Rostov-on-don is one of the rare museums in the former Soviet Union. It occupies part of the shunting paths already decommissioned station Gnilovskaya, where a relatively small area contains unique exhibits of equipment associated with the development of rail transport.
The oldest exhibit of more than 130 years, and all of them are here more than six dozen. Among them: half a dozen steam locomotives, mostly pre-war buildings, 5 locomotives, 4 units of track machines and locomotives, more than ten freight cars of different construction, railway crane, captured wagons, wagon – habituellement laboratory. Among this rare book is preserved even refrigerated wagon, the prototype of the present refrigerated trucks, which were transporting perishable products. Especially popular are two old passenger cabin-car of the last century, the comfort which is certainly compared to today's cars.
In the Museum you can touch everything, everywhere to come in and try, but the questions will always be answered by the guide. A group of enthusiasts, veterans of the railroad and employees of the Museum in the former building of the station is decorated exhibition of items connected with railway service, restoration and reconstruction work. The staff of the Museum tells not only about past exhibits, but also about their lives in our time. Some vehicles have today an excellent health and are in working order, participate in runs to Russia for Victory day, busy in shooting of movies.
