On Santorini island near the resort town of Kamari is an interesting wine Museum. The grape has long been considered the most important crop in Santorini. Archaeological excavations near Akrotiri have shown that grapes grown on the island 3,500 years ago. The specific soil of volcanic origin and the hot dry climate create ideal conditions for obtaining high quality raw materials.

The wine Museum is located within a private winery, which was established in 1870 by brothers Grigorian and Dimitris Cuteanimals. The Museum has in an underground natural cave, which is located at a depth of about 8 m, while its length is about 300 m. It is the only such Museum in Greece. On the creation of the Museum took 21 years. Funding for this project has fully provided for the family Cuteanimals.

The Museum exposition acquaints visitors with the history of wine production and life of winemakers on the island since the 1600's. The Museum is well lit all the stages of wine making in chronological order and the whole range of equipment used. Today wine production is using the latest technology, but visitors to the Museum will make a small excursion into the past and get acquainted with ancient manufacturing techniques. Among the Museum's exhibits include an old press for wine, which dates back to the year 1660. The tour is also accompanied by an automatic audio guide, available in 14 languages (including Russian) and various sound effects. Upon completion of fascinating excursions possible tasting of four of the best wines of the plant.
