Park Moerenuma is remarkable that in the 70-80-ies of the last century was built on a former city dump, which territory was deemed unsuitable neither for building nor for human habitation. Moerenuma is not a traditional Japanese Park, on the contrary, it Park, developed in accordance with modern ideas about landscape design. In the early 2000s Moerenuma was awarded the main prize of the prestigious Japanese design contest Good design.

The author of the project of the Park was the Isamu Noguchi is famous in Japan, sculptor, architect and stage designer, who United in his work the East and the West. His projects were built parks in Paris, Miami, Jerusalem and other cities of the world. Park Moerenuma was his last work that he did not have time to finish – the artist died in 1988 in new York. The completion of the construction took place under the supervision of his colleagues. In memory of the artist in the main building of the Park – a 30-meter glass pyramid of Hidamari was created a gallery of his works.

Park Moerenuma is located in the North-East of Sapporo and is part of the so-called "green ring" that surrounds the city. Its name means "marsh". Preparation for construction began with the dumping of garbage in 1970, and the main works started in 1982 - this place brought fertile land and planted trees. The Park master plan was developed in 1988.

In the main building of the Park, in addition galleries Isamu Noguchi, also there are viewing decks, showrooms, cafes and restaurants. Another attraction is Moerenuma – artificial mountain, at the top is another observation deck, which offers not only views of the Park, but a view of the whole city. Near the man-made mountain is a giant sculptural composition – a 13-metre pyramid of steel beams. For concerts and shows in the Park, the pavilion was built "Sea shell". In one of the areas of the Park there are seven playgrounds, equipped with various devices for outdoor games, swings, slides, ladders, etc.

The centre of the Park, as conceived by Isamu Noguchi, was to be the "Fountain of the sea" with two bowls, placed one inside the other, a pillar of water of which rises to a height of 25 meters. Light show "Symphony of water" with the participation of the fountain is held three times a day.
