His father was a coachman, and his mother the daughter of a Hatter. His real name Zalman Afraimovich Krajnovich.

To 15 years Krepinevich is a graduate of factory school at the Moscow electric plant named after Kuibyshev, went to work on the construction of the metro in Moscow as a fitter-electrician. Played in Amateur theatre club at the plant. Then this Amateur theatre was called the theatre of working youth (TRAM). Began his career under his real name. In 1937, he already worked as an actor in the puppet theatre, which was located at the house of pioneers in Moscow.

During the war he volunteered for the front, passing in 1941 as a military training short-term fees, organized by the Moscow military engineering school. In war, as a senior Lieutenant, he commanded a company of sappers. In 1943 in the winter near Belgorod received a severe wound, which resulted in eleven operations. The main ones were made by the leading surgeon of the hospital named after Botkin Xenia Vintsentini, who was married to the famous designer Sergei Korolev. As a result, the wounded leg was saved, but after that it began to limp.

After the war he got a job in Central puppet Theatre, the head of which was S. Samples. Career Gerdt started as a voice actor. For a long time he remained behind the scenes, voicing various roles. Since 1983 he worked as an actor MATT named after M. N. Yermolova.

For four years (1962-1966, Gerdt was a leading "Kinopanorama". In the 90 years he returned as a presenter author's program "the Tea club" at the Moscow TV-6 channel. 19 December 1994 participated in the latest program of Vlad Listyev "Rush Hour".
