The Church of St. Julian's parish Church is considered the city of setúbal. The original building was built in the second half of the XIII century. Money to build the Church was donated by the fishermen of the city.

It is known that in the late fifteenth century, the Church attached to the Palace Jorge de Lancastre, master spiritual knightly order of Santiago and the Duke of Aveiro. He used the Church as a private chapel until 1510. Between 1513 and 1520 medieval Church was rebuilt by order of king Manuel I. the Money to upgrade the buildings were selected from the Royal Treasury. So the money donated Georges de Lancastr and local parishioners.

The architectural style of the building – Manueline, as evidenced by the main and side portals of the Church that we see today. These are the only elements of the Church in this style, preserved to our days. In 1531 in Setubal was a strong earthquake, in which the Church was destroyed. After restoring the architecture of the Church began to dominate the style of mannerism. The opening of the renovated Church was held in 1570.

The Church was rebuilt again, after the Lisbon earthquake, which severely damaged the building. The temple was restored, the facade, interior wooden ceiling, painted tiles, main and side altars, the main chapel was designed in the late Baroque style. Manueline remained the main and side portal of the Church. The Church has one nave and three side chapels. The side walls are decorated with tiles "Azulejos" of the eighteenth century, which depict scenes from the life of St. Julian Anasarca and his wife.
