The Bund – a kind of symbol of Shanghai, has a second name "Fair architecture 10000 States." In Chinese the name "Bund" means "Outer coast".

On the waterfront is a lot of European colonial buildings, where once upon a time worked for different banks and trading company in the USA, England, Belgium, Japan, Germany and France. Consulate General of the Russian Federation is still there.

The entire length of the embankment, a mile, from the street to Jin Lin (South side) to the bridge Waibaidu spanning the Gulf Suzhou (North side). The promenade runs along the West Bank of the Huangpu river, which is one of the main tributaries of the Yangtze. The total length of the Huangpu river is 115 miles.

On the Western part of the embankment there are 52 homes in a neo-Gothic, neoclassical, art Deco and others. It is through such buildings of the Bund called architecture Shanghai Museum.

The most conspicuous building on the Bund is the HSBC building, hotel, Peace Hotel and Shanghai customs. The hotel was built in 1929 thanks to the efforts of the Sassoon family. First, the building was called "Cathay Hotel. The building has 12 floors in height it is about 77 meters and its appearance resembles a Gothic skyscraper. The floor in the hotel is made of marble and columns, lamps and Windows amaze dear chic finish.

The building HSBC Building currently houses the office of "Bank of Shanghai", and previously, there was the headquarters of the Bank.

The customs building was erected in 1927 on the same site as the building of the Ministry, which was built in traditional Chinese architectural style. The clock on the building were made in England and reminiscent of the famous clock "big Ben".

The Bund is a very popular spot among tourists and one of the most popular sites in Shanghai. In order to keep this place in its original form, as a unique monument of architecture, the authorities shall not allow the construction of tall buildings on the square near the waterfront.
